6n2 Polo GTI V 9n2 Polo GT (130)

Post by 1 GTI »

Im seriously thinking of putting my GTI in for the Polo GT (130) with vortex kit. Anybody know what the performance is like on the GT? I know the MPG would be great which I like the sound of. Also what sort of BHP would I be looking at if I had the ECU re-mapped? My father got the mk5 golf GT (140) and that goes like hell, very impressed with his golf. I've been looking around and the polo GT's are not bloody cheap to buy either. One thing which I will miss if I do decide to sell my GTI is my Xenon's, im in love with my lights, lol. Any info would be appreciated. Cheers people

Quick look on the Custom Code website suggests 170-175 BHP following a remap.

However I'd be more interested in the 270-280 lb ft of torque, that's a pretty large amount of twisting force.

I like the looks on the GT and it's even better with the vortex kit. 270lbs - 280lbs of torque, thats sounds awesome. Another question for you guys, you reckon the insurance would be higher on the GT than the GTI? It's quite hard to find a polo GT 130, not many around. Im tempted to step up my game in looking for the right one now.

If you havent driven a 1.9 TDI (130bhp) engined car before, then it will undoubtedly feel a fair bit quicker that the gti, even though on paper there probably would not be that much difference in 0-60 times. It is especially good for overtaking as the torque is a great asset.

The 2.0 TDI (140bhp) is a fair bit smoother than the 1.9, so it may seem a bit harsher and the power delivery is a bit less progressive i.e more of a surge when the turbo kicks in.

My other car has the same engine, it is great for reliability and will perform day in, day out. A remap will put a bigger smile on your face, but there is always the issue of clutch slip, I experienced this on mine with Revo. I don't wish to put a downer on things, but after a while I got bored/fed up of the short power band of the diesel and actually prefer the power delivery of an NA engine.

Don't forget the VRS, quite possibly cheaper than the GT and also had the option of xenons as a factory fit.

also don't forget the ibiza fr, same engine as both the GT and VRS but usually cheaper second hand

remap with Custom Code would see around 170bhp and 280 torque but the good thing about CC is that the torque curve is progressive and smooth unlike a Revo code which has a major "spike" and this is what kills the clutch.

the engine is great and very tuneable, and has always been very reliable for me, when the turbo kicks in, the thing shoves you into the seat!

on paper, the 130 engine is slightly slower than a gti, by around about a second to 60, but as someone said, it may feel quicker due to the turbo. with a bit of rough driving, you may see the 0-60 time under 9 secs without any modding!

you can also put 312mm brakes from an Audi TT (calipers, pads, discs and carriers) straight on the 130 engine cars with no extra mods needed!
