front brake upgrade
Hi guys saw a thread on cp with i think it was "neildo's" famous gti that has gone wrong in every way i worry about (Gearbox, cambelt etc..)
He's done the G60 front brake upgrade, if I don't get rid of my gti this weekend I plan on making some good upgrades, starting with this. How easy are they to fit etc..?
What parts are actually needed?
and are the g60 parts easy to come by?

I did the 280mm brake upgrade, got the discs from EuroCar Parts, cost
about £50. New pads were about £25. Got the carriers of a mate for £20.
I think the hardest part to get will be the carriers if you don't want to buy them new.
Well worth doing & not a big job really, replacing the rear discs & pads was more of a pain to do.

Agreed. I abandoned my attempt at changing the back pads due to needing the calliper tool.womble68 wrote:Thats of course IF u have the Calliper rewind tool, last time we did mine it was fairly late on when we realised we'd need one, and so had to go off and borrow one from someone else - v lucky, otherwise its shockingly bad to do.
For reference, this is a good guide for the fronts: http://forums.clublupo.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=12689
Alright mate
Yeah, the uprage is easy to do.
All you need is the G60 carriers. You can still use your GTi Calipers.
The disks are 280mm , and blind drilled and grooved look best - but there about £150 for both parts - Greestuff EBC i have. You can get normal disks and pads much cheaper ovi. Another thing you might want to consider is the braided hoses.
Ps. The car is stuck away in my garage with no gearbox - its away for a full rebuild
the sachs clutch came the other day though - should have the new clutch and box back in at the weekend
while waiting for the box - started to smooth a spare front bumper i got - so should be looking good soon

Well if all goes ahead this weekend and my polo goes there is a good chance i may turn up on your door step with a seat + snapped timing belt.
I'm currently in negotiation to swap my gti for an ibiza cupra, the cambelt is yet to be done and its on 61k...its a 2 hr 30 min drive home, if i buy it i will be wetting my pants, any signs to look for before it goes?

I didnt upgrade the back. I thought it would make the front look even bigger with the back being standard as people compare the front to the back !!Tim_GTi wrote:does anyone have a guide to changing the back discs? I'd love to upgrade the fronts but i think it would make the rears look even smaller! Are you able to use the OEM front discs for the rears? If not whats a suitable replacement?
