Resetting service light before it comes on?

I have serviced my car before the service warning light came on....I would imagine it will come on in the next 1000 miles or so...

Can I reset the timer on it now, so that it starts counting down from today?

If so, how?

The normal method of reset is here.

I am not sure if this only works from when the service is notified on the dash, I would assume not.
