Wheel bearing

Post by gazmangti »

Hi all,
I have decided that I need to do my rear wheel bearing because its really starting to hum now. Jusy wondering if anyone has done a wheel bearing on a 6n2 gti and how easy is it.

I have done loads before just wondering if there is anything i need to watch out for?

Cheers

The bearing and hub come as one unit.

Basically bolt off bolt on - easy enough to do 8)

if a wheel bearings gone you'll know about it!! they're well loud, you can check by jacking up the car and giving the wheel a spin tho, or take it to your local and they cud tell you for free!

I just paid £100 for one supplied and fitted

Well thats the thing.. im getting like a propeller type noise, but ive jacked the car up and spun the wheels but cant hear anything.. it only happens over about 30mph. Starting to wonder if its just me.. my discs and pads where badly in need of doing, so ive done them this week, so hoping maybe once they bed in, it might just go? wishful thinking though I guess.

that sounds exactly like what i was getting! only above 30mph...... and does it carry on when you put the car in neutral whilst stil travelling faster than 30?

Try and work out which wheel its coming from, and take it down to the a garage and ask them to check it out

i guessed it was a wheel bearing so i listened closely and discovered it was the rear right, took to a garage and asked him to give it a drive to confirm it, which he did. I then booked it in to get fitted a couple of days later. £100 with part supplied
