Door security

Lookin back on some of the older threads I seen something about watchdog and door locks and that there was a security problem. Can anyone elaborate on it?

I remember (just) the Watchdog episode and I'm sure it was just about the Golf. It took about 10 seconds to 'break' in (via the door lock) and I think just a screwdriver was used, causing little or no damage. Whether the same issue applies (or applied) to Polos I'm not sure.

Pretty simple anyway. Push a screwdriver through the lock and once its buggered the lock pops up. Thats how my old punto got raped!!!

Dont work.

If you push a screwdriver into a polo door lock , it will fold over the lock to stop the drive getting into the actuall barrel. Happened to my last polo - i will get a photo of the lock and barrell when i took it apart if i still have it.

hehe on my MK4 my central locking locked itself while i was out of the car and it was idling. I broke into my car with, a screw driver and a wire coat hanger lol

Use the screw driver to pry the door open a bit and make a hook in the wire coat hanger and reach down through the gap the screw driver has created and pull the door lock up

and there you go easy access. I was hacked off at how easy and quick it is to break in to the car.

Hum if this is too much info for breaking in the polo tell me ill remove. hehe
but my advise, TAKE EVERYTHING OUTTA YOUR CAR!!! oh and dont trust the Polo Idling with doors closed and windows closed, it might just lock you out as well

Think I better make a spare key! Only got the 1 and if you lose that too it cost about Â£140 to make a transponder key using the lock barrel.

I can get a copy for about Â£20 but it will only open the door as it wont have all the demobilizer

i need a 2nd key. is it true you can only get them from VW (for Â£30 is what i heard) or is their other places that do them. i was thinking about the immobiliser chip and all that...

A key with the chip MUST be a VW key. They are the only ones that have transponders that work. A mk4 or mk5 polo key with nothing ie no central locking, light etc is around Â£50 plus Â£70 to code it - they have to be laser cut!

Many audi dealers will cut them for like 7 quid!!

From what I have been told the MK5s are much higer insurance groups than the newer polos because of a lock issue. My 1.4 MK5 is insurance group 6 or 7. I remember a mate telling me about this he saw the watch dog episode all those years ago, he could be wrong and I didnt know they based the insurance groups partly on security. Is this correct?

No - the transponder is only necessary to deactivate the immobiliser to start the car. Any key, transponder or not cut to the car will open the doors.

The lock issue was more apparent on the mk4 golfs, as the handles are so easy to destroy - the polo had similar handles, but i beleive the mechanism was revised to compensate for this issue.

Lol still breakinable - just rip off the handle, stick a screwdriver in the lock and voila hehe
