Polo Dieseling on startup

Post by tegwin »

The car only does it occasionally....But when you start it up it sounds like a diesel for about half a second before running normally...

Sounds like heavy knock.....does anyone else have similar noises? Im assuming its normal and has something to do with the auto knock adjustment in the ecu, but i was just wondering if other people had the same thing?

Mine does it from time to time, don't think it's anything to worry about.

If you had a Mk5 Golf GTI worryingly when cold they continue to sound like a diesel, however they don't exactly drive like one, and they don't sound like it when revved :D But yes, think its all good on the Polo front. Maybe its a conspiracy ;)

Mine does this occasionally. Read somewhere a long time ago that it could be down to the exhaust just shaking on its mounts slightly on startup... or something.

Nothing to worry about though.

Check your oil level, mine was doing it quite frequently on the old engine, because it's the oil pump getting "warmed up". Usually sounds louder when there's a significantly small amount of oil in the engine.

The sound of diesel but no benefits of diesel, such as good a mpg figure  mine does it on cold startups.

Very true, my Dad's does it all the time. Mk6/7 Polos sound like diesels on start up. Mine has never made such a sound
