Can't remember but someone here or Club Polo is selling an AFH 16v Turbo lump for around £1000. have a look at the sales section if you want all that power straight away  Much better instead of paying for time and effort doing the conversion yourself.

I turbo'd a 1.4L AEX 8 valve :D my gosh that engine didnt half go some when it was finnished, I sold it to my mate in the end and he only uses it for shows etc now but it was a great project, we did it all from scratch and wrote up the plans and welded up the manifolds etc...

Not sure what the kits are like but if you know HOW, custom make it! we didnt do much to the engine its self, Used stronger parts thats all.

Youd probably be a very popular man on this forum if you could write up how you did that my friend. Id certainly like to know lol.

Ok you need to be nicknamed the turbo guru and inform the rest of us how to turbo our engines on the cheap.

Oh wise one, how may i make my little bless-ed 8V go zoom zoom???????

Seriously though you should get down on paper what you done, or word document, and just get it on this forum. We could link it to the FAQ's as god knows how many people always ask after this kind of thing!

lol i did make lots of plans etc on paper! I will do a write up some time of every thing we did to convert it.

The thing is, we actualy used a turbo off a volvo 2.3L from the scrap yard which cost us £20! i used a rebuild kit which cost £60 and it was like new! Then all the rest was made up of parts we could find and custom make, such as the manifold etc.

Belive it or not, once it was all tuned up and ready to go the turbo realy kicked hard! I also have a Celica GT-Four st205 so i know my turbos, I think the AEX engine had less turbo lag than the celica and it forced it hard up the rev range! I will get my mate to dig the car out the garage some time and take it for a drive, will try to get it on youtube or somthing. 8) :D

Do you have any pics of the project progression? if so then that'd be a great help if you did a write-up. Even if I DIY'd it I wouldn be able to insure it so turbo's are just a dream for me

Rothe motorsport in Germany do log style cast manifolds for the 8v and 16v Mk4/6N Polos, as well as the earlier 8v lumps - I'm using one on my G40 with a K03 turbo.

The 6N motors have pretty weak rods, and the cranks aren't as tough as the earlier cars either. Lowering the compression ratio would be a good idea too, stacking head gaskets is cheap - new custom pistons is the better way.

TSR used to do a turbo kit for the 6N, I think it gave about 140bhp on a 1.4 8v on standard internals. They stopped selling it though, whether it was related to the couple of stories I heard of cars throwing rods or not I don't know.

Once you've got turbo, manifold, intercooler and downpipe sorted you'll have to sort out the ECU too - which isn't particularly cheap.

The AEX Engines throw rods perfectly well by them selfs without the help of a turbo lol!
