Track days / Getting into the Racing scene...

Post by olop_chris »

Hey all,

Basically, I've been thinking for a long time now about applying for my National B competition licence and entering races with a track weapon of my choice (probs mk2 golf / 205 gti) something like that!

The costs wouldn't exactly be cheap, but the other option I'm tempted by is signing up for karting.

Has anyone had any experience or got a licence? If so Id love to hear how you've gone about things!

have no experience in racing (unless its with a PS2 controller  )

but when i got a rally day out for a birthday present, i really enjoyed myself, i loved it and would love to do it again. if you can do it, i'm pretty sure you love it.

someone i used to work with actually built their own car from scratch and he races in a small competition, pretty neat!

I've no experience myself but a good mate of mine races. He started in gt3, which he has just won this year (Daniel Gibson). It costs him in excess of £20,000 a year but thats for car, parts, employing a 2 man pit team and the race costs.

So unless your thinking of spending big buck...

I've always wanted to try rally cross myself but that will stay a dream for a good 5 more years

With me it's the Xbox (Forsa), I recently did the Brands Hatch bash for my birthday, round with the instructor first in a 3 series, then a few laps on your own in a formula first single seater, was the fekkin nuts. Seriously want to do it again. Deffo recommend it.

Hey Chris,
I completed the 'grand prix challenge' at silverstone and had one of the best days ever. I'd love to get into the racing scene but as 1litre said, it's just sooo expensive!!
If anyone has thought about doing the same track day as me, it cost about £700 (a year ago) but very worth every penny....a good idea for a combined christmas present from all your family?!
It lasts all day and consists of:
Porsche 911
ferrari 355
audi rs4 (damn quick)
lotus exige (my personal fave)
renault 1600 single seater
caterham 7
rally challenge (just a 206 and a fiesta)
4x4 circuit and quads
I have since done an Exige driving day to relive the experience...mmm so much fun!
