Whiring noise when changing gear (96-6N)

Post by Polo96CL »

As title states, I get a strange whiring noise when changing gear. It doesn't go away when changing gear at a different RPM, so i'm clueless.

Is this normal or is something wrong?

Sorry to be the first to mention this, but that noise could be from your gearbox. :(

I thought it might be but wasn't too sure what it was. It's been like it for a while (5 or so years) and not been a problem but i'd like to get some insight into it too.

Sounds to me like that could be the clutch release bearings.

Does the noise start from when you press the clutch and continue until your back in gear and off the clutch. Or can you hear whirring/whining whilst driving in gear?

Edit - Just noticed the date of the OP , hope you got it sorted.
