rear washer

Post by robbiehall »

Help, mines packed up. Any ideas?????

I have toped up the reservoir in the engine bay, looked at the nozzle at the rear and it seems clear.

Probably the washer hose popped off just under the engine bay, common in cold weather. It's happened to me three times now, stopped after I started using a higher concentration of screenwash.

Work the rear washer jet and check for signs of water loss around the bulkhead area, if there is none their its probably popped off inside the bootlid. Which can be a bit worse because it can flood the microswitch on the boot lock and cause your alarm to go off

Hope this helps :)

No problems.

Just remember not to panic as its covered under warranty

Best way to avert this is not to even think about using your washer jets in freezing temperatures, unless of course if your lucky and have heated washer jets 8)

Your washer jet pops off! The pin of the washer jet is frozen so obviously the pressure builds up at the weakest point which is usually just where the pipe connects under the bulkhead. But it can *occasionally* pop off in the bootlid. Its a common problem on the MKIV Golfs and something thats carried on in the 9n Polo

Ohh, I was thinking it was due to the water icing up, expanding and forcing it off all on it's own like...

Obvious when I look at your reply.....

P.S. the other day I was under the bonnet - cleaning - and I 'brushed' ever so lightly, a little black plastic cover from the top damper mounting, and, it shot down in the engine bay, so far, never to be seen again.

Oh no, I had that little black plastic washer, it fell down on to the suspension gaiter, but when I tried to reach it I flicked it into the engine under cover. I have heard it rattling but cannot see it...

Just remember not to panic as its covered under warranty
Nelson, should I just be able to phone up the dealer and say 'my rear wash don't work'??
won't they say 'should have used VW screen wash'

Well, praise to Autohaus at Kettering - my rear washer is working again now, it was the 'water pipe popped off' problem 'probably due to insufficient anti-freeze in water' - quoting from the Technician.

So I'm happy again....

Well I wasn't present while they did their work, but its behind the rear trim panel on the tailgate, cos they had to remove it - (from the notes) and I guess that it unclips at several places in the usual way - partly hidden that is - until you lift up some plastic with a screwdriver and see where the clip may be.

Wow, Autohaus did something right?

Only kidding, Kettering seem to be fine (my ex's dad got his TT from them and couldn't praise them enough) but Northampton seem to be a tad useless at times :)
