Is there a trick to removing the rear wheel bearings and hub on a 6N2 polo?
The drivers rear seems to be whining a fair bit now, so i would like to fix it before i sell the car.
I took the wheel off, and then the brake drum and was left with the hub attached to the little stub axle. I then undid the large nut holding the hub and bearings on. . . . but could i pull the hub off? could i £"$!.
So di i have remove more than just the drum of the rear brake? Do the pads and other stuff have to come off too?
any help much much appreciated.
Thanks,
Donald
Is there a trick to removing rear 6N2 wheel bearing?
The procedure for a Mk4 (which is either identical or similar) is described here:

Perhaps it's of some help?

Been looking for an answer to this myself.
The guide refered to by Speedlaw is for the 6N1 or earlier and doesn't cover the later model
I have a late 1999 Mk4 which has the same setup as that described by fisha. This wheel setup is not described in the MK4 Haynes manual. I assume that the (early?) MK5 will be the same as the late MK4
Does anyone know how these bearings are replaced? I'm suspecting that it may not be a DIY job and that a workshop press may be required. Can someone who knows for sure enlighten me???
Thanks

It MIGHT be in the MK V manual. I'm not going to part with good money just for this single problem.
The AVS web site shows that the same part applies to both the late MK4 and the MK5 (late 6N1 & 6N2)
See:

Unfortunately there isn't a picture of the part (which includes the hub) so I can get an idea of the setup.
