6n & 6n2 Suspension

Post by polopowah »

Hello all

Granted...im in the wrong section for this question but thought it would get more response here!

will suspension kits from a 6n fit a 6n2? i've heard its a case of them just having different top mounts and that they can be adapted.

any advice or info would be appreciated

Cheers

From what ive heard, yes its just a case of changing the top mount, but somebody will have to confirm that.

So i would have to find the top mounts from a 6n to fit it in my 6n2?

or they can be modified to fit the 6n springs??

somebody shed some light on this :P

nah i think the top mounts need to be taken of the MK5 6N2 Suspension and then fitted onto the mk4 6n suspension, im assuming?

Mk4 - 6N Rear springs are the exact same as a Mk5 - 6n2.

Mk4 - 6N Front springs, are not the same. I tried to fit Mk4 springs to a Mk5 with Mk4 top mounts - this did not work. In the end - i heated the top of the spring up and pulled it out more as the Mk4 6n is a more tight O at the top than the Mk5 6n2 which is more (_) shaped.

So... basically its a waste of time + money getting MK4 suspension for a MK5.

hell yeah
i've gotta sort out my hub problem first before the new belgian alloys go on, they are certainly unusual wheels, pics soon when i get answers on the flipping hub sizes!

been out of the scene far too long now!

huh? :? I don't understand why you used mk4 top mounts, i'm sure the front springs on the mk4 are a different sort of shape but if you had used a mk5 top mount would it not have worked?

Where'd you go to Ben? i remember you being on this forum quite a bit back in the day? and i remember you answering all the stupid questions i had

No, the spring on a MK4 front looks like this - O the spring on a MK5 front looks like (_) meaning it doesnt fit. I got the full front end mounts from a Mk4 so i could use one bit from it and the other bit from my mk5 ( to attach it to the car) all in all there was no way to make it fit!
