Bump strips?
Bump strips?
Went in2 a bodyshop 4 a quote the other day, and I said I wanted the bump strips colour coded. The guy told me that the bump strips on the doors are stuck on and that they dont have any pins or recesses 4 them to fit in. Is this correct??!!?? Because if it is I'll just have them taken off and painted.
Thanks, tim.
Thanks, tim.

there's no way that leaving them on will work properly, you have to mask the surface and you'll never get a proper bond of paint around the masking tape. water will work it's way in.
for the sake of 2 hours, you will get a much better finish and a much easier job, and you won;'t have to spend over an hour masking the whole car. talk about being lazy but probably causing more work for yourself in the long run.
by taking them off, you spray them and don't ever have an "edge" for the weather to get into the paint.
if you're going to do it, do it properly.

I completely agree, Its best to remove them and a good bodyshop will almost definetely refuse to do them if you want them done whilst on the car.david burton wrote:what?!steve__30 wrote:what is the difference in leavin them on or takin them off? if they r gona peel they will peel wateva way u do it :Sdavid burton wrote:don't leave them on the car to spray them! that's very budget and the paint will peel after a while. taking them off is a couple of hours work but definitely worth it.

I've seen a car where a bodyshop didn't remove the mouldings - A couple of months down the line the paint started to flake near the edges.
It may cost more, but best to have it done properly - otherwise its probably just going to cost you much more on the long run!

I'm not even sure it'll cost more, TBH.
In fact, I have no idea how someone could actually make it even look 1/2 decent if they were left on the car. there would be overspray on the bodywork if the masking wasn't absolutely 100% perfect.
and another thought is how on earth you could smooth them from the textured surface!
