280mm Brake Upgrade - Unanswered Questions

Post by Mouse_GTI »

Hey guys, I'm gonna be getting my brake upgrade for xmas. Searched pretty much every thread on the G60 upgrade but still unsure on a few things.

Discs

Obviously you can have the G60 discs but some people have 280mm Brembo Max or Black Diamond discs. What discs out of the 3 are the best bet, and if so how much/where to get them?

If G60's are recommended, what is the part number - 104440340, 535 615 301....?

Carriers

Is the part number for the carriers 357 615 1256 or 857 615 125?

Where is cheapest place to get them?

Pads

Black Diamond or Green stuff pads?

Where to get them and do they come in different sizes?

General Questions

After fitting all the new stuff would I need to drain the brake fluid at all?

Any advice much appreciated 8)

I have the G60 brakes. I have EBC greenstuff pads and greenstuff blind drilled disks. I think there pretty good (but i can only compare to stanard pads and disks - never used any upgraded brake pads / disks.

Dont need to disconnect the GTI claiper from the flex hose - so no you dont need to bleed the brakes - just take the lid off - so that when you push the piston back.

Carries - VAG parts do them new for 100 a pair - but check local scrappies and vw forums - as i see them all the time on these!!

You dont need to disconnect the calliper...Make sure you use the correct calliper rewind tool to push the piston back into the calliper!!!

The cheapest place to get a carrier is the scrappies...if you can find one!

I just used a normal flat head screw driver. Does the same job! :D

I use the zimmerman cross drilled discs from GSF- about £50 a pair i believe, i can safely say they do the job nicely!

The pads i use are black diamond predator pads, and again they're spot on! About £60 or so a pair can't remember, but got them from motorsportworld.co.uk

They are 16v polo pads...and calipers/carriers i got 2nd hand from edition38 about 4yrs ago.

But you don't need to remove your 16v caliper, just bolt it to the carrier once you fit the disc and carrier to the hub!

Should take you about 1hr to do the setup, longer if you want to paint the stuff like i did.

So FINAL QUESTION.. To do this to a Polo GTi can I have a list of all the things I need.
Do I need to buy carriers or calipers? Part numbers would be very helpful

Dont know part numbers

YOU WILL NEED:

2 * Carries (G60 ones)
2 * 280 Discs (G60 ones)
2 pairs of brake pads (GTI or G60 - same)
