Crashed the GTi (update 14th jan)bye bye gti its gone

Post by thedees1 »

Was going round the city bypass in edinburgh the other day at 70 when i started to fell a hell of alot vibration. Just as i thought balls i have a flat the back tyre just disintagrated ,

the car spun 360 degrees facing the on coming traffic and the back end smashed of the concrete central reservation.

the rear passenger side quarter has took a major bash and the bumper is wrecked and a few scrapes along the doors and the alloy wheel totally mangeled

managed to not hit any other cars and the car stopped in the middle of the 2 lanes facing the oncoming traffic. managed to start the car a drive it onto the hard shoulder.

totally gutted like the police said i was extremley lucky not to hit any other cars just by looking at the skid marks on the road

so just waiting on the garage doing the estimate and waiting on the verdict.

just got the 4 tyres like 4 months ago nearly 400 quid continental sport contact and this happens.

so if your heading round the bypass westbound after dreghorn and see all the red paint on the central res that was me lol

Well after much messing about with insurance company and the repair garage finally they have authorised the repair :D . , Its getting a new back axle host amongst of other things getting replaced . They are difficulty sourcing a new rx214 alloy so if anybody knows where i could get one can you let me know. they guy in the garage said that if it was just a ordinary polo the would have wrote it off, but because its a gti they reckon its worthwhile fixing it. im just so glad they didnt write it off after all the work done on it and the gearbox getting done etc etc

well thats it folks got a call today they have written it off, totally gutted and now left with no car this is the worst feeling ever, think they are going to pay out 3500 but thats gonna pay off the outstanding hp so im left with nothing[/i] :(

Oh man I totally feel for you :( At this time of year aswell. I know it's a cliche to say but at least your ok. Do you think the damage is repairable?

it does look repairable and the police and the recovery guy seem to think so aswell so fingers crossed.

just had a bit whiplash thats really it, im just glad i never had the little one in the car as her car seat is on that side.

now arguing with bennets to get my courtesy car before crimbo

the traffic cop was saying that his wife has just got the new gti , but he thinks the 6n ones are lot nicer looking lol

absolutely gutted for you. glad you're ok, hope the whiplash pains go away soon.
once watched a tyre fly off an m3 right in front of me going fairly quick on the m6 in the 3rd lane, god knows how the bloke managed, but he was very careful and managed to get it across to the hard shoulder (I also obviously managed to avoid the errant tyre, felt bad though that I didn't stop up).
hope the car is ok, wouldn't be right for a tyre to cause the loss of car in the best colour ;)

christ soo scary stuff when a tyre goes - its happened to me in a mates car. Luckily we werent going too fast so it was easier to control but nonetheless a nerve racking experience

Hope you and the car will be ok buddy!

As soon as I read the bit about the blow out I knew it would be Continentals

My wife had a blow out in her Fiesta 13 days after picking it up brand new which spun her car into central reservation... I started a complaint and requested they change all the tyres on the car, they refused and fitted Continentals again.

2 weeks after getting the car back she had another blowout that she managed to control (guess it was handy having the experience) as I was fitting the spare wheel I noticed a bulge in the sidewall of another Continental tyre.

I asked Ford to change all the tyres again but they refused again and I had to pay out £240 for new tyres all round.

Will never touch Contis ever again!
