Heat problems

Ok ive posted this before but i need some help with anyone that has maybe experienced the same problem.

Its winter and i need 2 get to the bottom of the problem before i freeze to death!

My heater blows COLD air only, this does steam down my windows but all the air coming out is cold. No warmness at all!

Not good when im driving with gloves and a scarf on to keep warm.

I have heard about problems with the heating matrix but that is a HUGE job. Is there anyway i can go through some kind of troubleshooting to get this fixed?

Has anyone experienced this problem at all?

Also i remember someone telling me about the actual hot to cold control on the heater? What did they exactly do to test or fix this?

I need as much info as possible so i can tackle the problem ASAP.

Right, you no when you turn the heat cold/warm Knob, start it at cold.....then turn it to warm slowly, does it feel the same tension from cold to warm? or does it become more taught?

Feels slightly the same i think... dont really notice any difference too much.

Anything in particular you were thinking off?

Mate can almost Assure you its your heater Matrix, if that aint working its just gonna blow Nice cold air, Get a Mechanic to double check for you, no point in spending money on getting one sorted and it aint that, But sounds of it, It is!

Oh an to add, i dont think its a big job, Just a real b***h of a job! Altho i aint a mechanic, Get yourself a Haynes Manual

should help a bit.

yep i agree, def sounds like heater matrix to me.

If it is then its not an expenisve part, however the labour costs can mount up as it requires the dashboard to be removed ( i think )

You can buy plug in heaters that power from the ciggy lighter........ temp fix....

Take the back of the controls off where you control the temperature of the heat coming out, sounds like the pulley has come off, its prone to rattle off in time, as you say there is no force when pulling it as it is suppost to become more taught the more you work your way round to the hottest temp

Thanks for the help. Yeh will try that bepe but if not then im gonna try and do the heating matric myself.

Will start taking the dash apart bit by bit as soon as i get uni exams over with. Dont mond if i have to drive around with the dash half apart whilst i do it slowly. Think it will be the heating matrix tbh, if it is and i have the bottle to do it myself i will post a step by step guide up

Also it may also be a resistor which may sit behind the scuttle panel, not to sure on that one, as to where it is - may be that this has went instead of the actual matrix and cheaper to get, Its advisable to get a Mech to check if poss!

heater matrix's usually only leak and just dont stop working,

so if your carpets are wet then it will be matrix, the temp needle doesnt move on dash...... if it stays low the it might be that your thermostat in cooling system is faulty,

to check this, locate and remove (as per haynes)and place in boiling water to see if it opens, if it opens then its ok

if all the above is ok, then check to see if heater controls are all ok, as previously said

Not dealt with any garages in Edinburgh bud, i take mine out to Shots and get all my work done there of a good mechanic,

Although there's a garage up in Colinton Village that i heard was alright, just as you come over the bridge into the village take your first left and down the hill, Garage should be on the left, cant mind what its called tho.

I THINK bepe had the right idea.. just wasnt sure exactly what to do. Took the car to a garage today seeing as i was stranded at home with the bloody forth bridge being closed! Guy there let the car heat up for 10 minutes, told me it wasnt the matrix and then had a fiddle about with the heating controls and..... WARM HEAT

He said that if i turn it to cold then it will get stuck to blowing out cold air again. Im not sure how to sort this

Will have a look myself when i get a chance (but i dont think i have a clue, lol) if not then its back to the garage for the guy to fix.

So much for trying to fix problems with the car myself

Im useless! Lol. At least its not the matrix

yeah, same happend to me mate, just took the facaia of the heater dials off and re-attached the cable pulley which open and closes the valve, hope you get it sorted mate

So all you do is take off the dials and you can see some kind of pulley?

At least i have warm air now. Like i said if i cant fix it myself its back to the garage.

its kinda hard to explain, if you have a haynes manual it will be in there, basically just need to take the surround off and re attacth the pulley, sorry for the lack of info lol ages since i did it
