Intermittent Temperature Gauge

Post by Hampelmann »

I have a 1987 Polo with an intermittent temperature gauge. Changing the sender unit did not cure the problem. The cluster is made by Moto Meter.
Has anyone had similar problems?

The fan does come on, but this is controlled by another sensor in the radiator.

You'll need to remove your gauges though... Haynes manual will show you how to do this but it is very straightforward.

Once you take gauges out and turn them round you'll find lots of small nuts which attach the circuitry to the clock, rev counter, temperature gauge etc.

I had a problem with mine... The red light kept flashing every now and again and the temperature gauge would work intermittently. Turned out to be that the nuts on the temperature gauge had worked loose. Tightened them up with a small spanner and hew presto, working temperature gauge.
