It was a recall fault, theres a small part of the pedal box that is weak so they recalled them all to be replaced but I think theres some people on here who have had theirs replaced a 2nd time.

I think the recall only applies to GTi's although I'm not sure why.

If it happened suddenly, IE: the clutch suddenly went loose, it would probably be either the pedal box or the cable snapping.

The Golf is good, she's now a Bolf (Golf with Bora front panels) and just had a service, cambelt change and replacement temp sensor, so she's proving to be a money pit - but I don't mind that really because I love the car!

Check the cable they're a much cheaper fix. But don't go for a copy from Euro Car Parts as they're not the same as the VW part and don't fit. The VW Part should be about £30. I've changed it myself its not too bad - just get yourself a Haynes Manual its explained in there. (Saying that there might be a Guide in the DIY section).
Also, I'd guess the reason is GTI specific is the Clutch is different on the lower models they're Rod Linked, where as the GTI is a Cable connection. Both use a cable, but they're connected differently at the end (my Girlfriend has a 1.0E which is how I found this out).

I'm fairly sure my pedal box hasn't been done, If i go into VW complaining that my clutch is creaking is this enough for them to do the replacement for free?

Bryony post some pics up of the bolf!!!

lol no :p vw and warranty work are like a square peg into a circular hole - they dont mix. Its a battle to get them to replace the box - they refused to have anything to with mine, even though its their fault!

If yours hasnt had it done, theyll do it no questions asked (well they should anyway!) Just go in there and have a moan. If you wait till it breaks, you risk ruining your clutch and gearbox

Hey guys

Im still not sure if my car is just the clutch cable or the whole clutch, BUT i did ring VW about it poss being the pedal box and they said my car was not on the recall list but would fix it for free as a GOODWILL. They might have only said that because it was broken.... They might not do it free if it is not broken though.

My car is going to the garage tonight so hopefully will be fixed asap. Not looking forward to getting my baby on the back of the truck yet though. Will prob have to take my splitter & maybe bumper off to prevent any damage. lol
