Polo 6N sound project

Post by Ice »

Thought it would be interesting to watch. Currently installing a new soundsystem and started with the tweeters.
Here are the pics:

Wow, love the setup with the tweeters! It's something I've had in the back of my mind for a while now (even have spare A-pillar plastic covers lying around) but haven't gotten into yet.

Did you find it easy/hard to do?
Was the sound better from that position? I've seen several setups that have the tweeter exactly where you've put it (so somewhat higher up in the A-pillar) so I guess it's not without reason eh!

having them there will give a much improved sound as they wont be distorted (by bouncing off the windscreen) and tweets work better the nearer to the ear they are.

It was very easy to do but i do these things daily :P If you put the tweeters too low, the whole soundstage will be low and that's not good. Also tweeters should almost never be faced towards the driver but that's a long story.
Doorpanels will also be cool and so will the amp/sub setup. Currently working on them. Keep you posted, maybe someone finds something useful.

Thanks for posting these pics! They will be very helpful for people doing their installs.

My tweeters (focal) are in the factory 6N2 location (ie on the door-mirror backs) pointing towards me.

I've seen that firing them across the car at each other is meant to be good.

Seems wierd to me, but it must be done for a good reason!

The door pods look top, but i think you need to retrim the handle surround with a bit alacantara

KarlM: i know about the retrim :P I'm also currently considering replacing all the seats.
A bit offtopic but has anyone installed two bucket-seats in the back? I wanted to do that in my audi once but the seat was too tall to fit. i wonder if Polo has the same problem...

I was thinking about doing that with mine, didnt think it was very safe though.

As for the seats the only thing to do is remove all your seats and try and fit your front ones into the back, if they fit then some aftermarket ones should
