wow, you really brought this one back from the depth!!! the last post before yours was years ago lol....
anyway i have the exact same problem, and like you, i want to find a diy fix rather than go to stupid vw stealers. i have realised after joining this forum..... my car has had LOADS AND LOADS of problems. and i always tell people about how solid polos are, and how great my cars have been to me. but in honesty, i didnt have ( in 5 whole years, driving a 6n 1998 1.0l) as many problems in my old polo as i have had in a much shorter time in my new one. what the f%$& has happened to vw build quality. everyone i speak to has had some electrical prob in the last 6 monthsish... stuff is falling off, things behave weird etc etc etc. so disappointing.
anyway i hope someone comes out with a definitive bit of help here.
