MOT: Polo 1.4 Auto 2005/05 (9N)

I thought I would post on here my experiences with dealing with my local (incompetent) VW Main Dealer and MOT.

Having recently bought the above car for my Mother, it will turn the full 3 years old on 29/02. So I got it booked into my local Dealership for its first MOT. We've had one or two very minor issues around [seat]belts not retracting and a rattle in the dashboard - but really nothing major at all.

It should pass without issue (it is a VW after all - Oh the irony

) and indeed I am expecting it to do so. Can't wait to see how they mess it up though

Anyhoo, the other reason I was posting was to share that I enquired about extending the VW Warranty on the car and they quoted (a very reasonable) Â£246 (mileage ltd. to 15K) for the year. It includes VW Assist, MOT failure insurance and best of all, is excess free.

This seems good value to me - but regardless, we were going to renew it anyways for peace of mind.

Will post back when we know how the Polo did tomorrow

it wont pass if the seat belts are not retracting

I think that most 9m polos have this problem with the seat belts? I know that my drivers and passenger side had problems before with not retracting properly when pulled...

Luckily I know someone who works at my local VW, and he managed to book my car in and replace both seatbelts under goodwill! (my car is 03 reg)

They did all that for free and even washed m car

lol... worth trying to go through goodwill or something?

Well, here I thought no-one really cared

To report back, the car passed the MOT without issue. When I queried the Warranty work I wanted them to complete, they informed me that they had run out of time as they could not complete all the necessary work in half a day. I half expected some sort of half-cocked job from VW, just wasn't surprised when they told me

They just ran the car through the MOT and that was it - although, I have to say it was cleaned fantastically well, with [alloy] wheel free of brake dust, car properly washed and vacuumed on the inside. Was dried off properly (no water spots) and I now have to book it in sometime later on this week.

So the car will go back for the dodgy passenger side washer jet, non-retracting seat belts and minor-whatever-else it needs doing before the factory warranty will expire and the extended warranty will kick-in

I couldn't cope with dealing with these VW Monkeys regularly if I had a VW. Thankfully our main car is a Lexus (RX) and we all know how good Lexus are!

Car booked in for 13/02 - for the Warranty work. We'll see how it goes. I half expect them to report back, after keeping the car fr one whole day and not actually even bothering to look at it, that much of what we have asked them to 'fix' is 'unable to find fault' or 'works fine'

IE: they wont do a damn thing....feh!

Well, got the car back after the whole day with VW.

I was expecting to be underwhelmed by their response, however, everything considered I have been left pleasantly surprised...

They have agreed to 'fix' each and every issue we raised with them under the terms of the 3 YR Warranty and I cannot ask for anything more. The issue of the 'blocked [front] washer jet' they agreed that it needed replacing, but Warranty would not cover this as non-approved washer fluid had been used. Which TBH is correct. But with a little prodding, they keeled over and agreed that if we paid for the item they would fit it FOC...part cost Â£2.28.

All in all, very pleased with the outcome. But one positive experience doesn't restore my faith in VW
