Ok, so I got back from uni on Friday, New wheels had arrived and car had just come back from it's service, wahey

Went to get the tyres fitted and balanced etc the following day,

Took the alloys down there, the tyres had already been delivered, I parked my car up and sat in the waiting room.

After bout 15 mins the mechanic comes in asking "these alloys, they are 15"s yeh?", i reply yeh and thinking "what a nonce lol, probably cos he's gunna have to strech them a bit (195/45s on a 15X8 rim)"

He comes in a further 10 mins later, "sorry mate, yours tyres are too skinny i cant do it", we talk and come to the conclusion that it (obviously)can be done, he's just not willing to do it, for he fears of damaging my alloys,

Fair enough, I ring up Black Circles and they try to find me somewhere else to fit them,

I walk round to pack up my car, the mechanics already done it, tyres and alloys in, Bob's your uncle, nice man.

It's 2 hours before Black Circles finally get back to me with a different garage, by which time it has to be done on Monday, Not happy

I drive home to store my alloys and tyres til Monday, and to my suprise and anger, find this on two of the alloys?

Turns out the nice man wasn't so nice after all, he was an absolute c**t trying to hide what he'd done,

What made him think I wouldn't notice any of that on Brand New alloys?!

I've had to put off getting my tyres again now because I've gotta sort this!!

Question, when alloys get refurbed is it ok to drive them in on the car and they just get to work?
Or du have to take the alloys down there tyre-less and off the car?

Ohh TH Monos, nice choice Tim. Definitely take it back to the garage and complain! They should not be doing that to brand new wheels. It makes a difference what brand of tyres you have though, some are very easy to stretch and others aren't

Yeh I called them soon as I found out, they were closed, so I called Black Circles and they logged what I said and when I said it for proof,

Going back there tomorrow!

The tyres are Toyo Proxies TR-1s

Thats appalling, I would think you should be able to get something sorted with the garage when you go there tomorrow. The official line re the tyres - I was shown the book with the guidelines in last time I was at my favoured tyre fitters - is that a 195/45 tyre should be fitted to no wider than a 7.5" rim... although it can obviously be stretched a bit to fit the 8" rim with no major issues, as long as the job is done carefully.

Really poor service for the guy to hide his mistake from you in such a way

Appalling the guy would have the nerve to do that. The look on his face tomorrow is gonna be somewhat interesting!!

It may be good to note that the finish cant be very hard for that to happen. Its almost as tho they havent been hardened properly. Where did they come from?

f**k paying to get them re-done mate, take them straight back down there tomorrow and ask them what the f**k they have done, and what they are going to do about it....

I have to say thinking about it when i got my RM's I reckon the tyre place bent the outers....considering they mentioned nothing wrong with them after balancing and fitting to find such a shocking wobble on the front two...they said they had problems fitting the front two as well(these were the two bent ones).

C**ts....i just hope yours arent bent as well, id check it before fitting the tyres, and you will need to get them removed from the tyres for refurbing so its not worth fitting first

that's shocking

At least they sound like a big company, so you have more of a chance of getting them to compensate you for the damage

I go to a small tyre fitters, but they're dead-on. The owner did my tyres and went round the rim marking any chips that were there before he started work

thats awful mate! not good workmanship at all! Hope you can get it sorted out!

Somewhere on *cough* clubpolo *cough* is a list of guidlines of tyre stretch thats legal! might be worth having a noisey for it! at least you can then say, look, you can put these tyres on there!

Would of thought toyos would of been ok with a stretch! although in saying that, my t1-r's on the vento have a suprising stretch on them on a 7" wheel!

Went back there today, it was quite laughable actually, never seen such an old man act so childish!

He denied which I knew he would, but said he'd get it fixed as a sign of 'good will'.

Basically: knew he was in the sh*t, didn't want to own up, but wanted me to keep my mouth shut, and it would also make him look like the good guy!

I bit the bullet and said yeh 'thank you' that's fine if you fix it properly, and give it to me in writing.

He of course did not like the writing part!! I argued for ages and he wouldn't budge saying that his 'word' is his word and thats all i need....pr*ck

So we eventually settled on 'his word' in front of many witness' including other customers that he'd fix it next weekend for me, and in the meantime I sent a letter 'thanking' him for fixing it, just so I have some paperwork my end if it goes t*ts up.

However, I got the tyres fitted (with someone else of course) today, and give them a good hard clean, and the only visible damage is this very small dinge

And I dunno whether it's worth going back for? I know he's not going to do a proper job, he'll just sand it down and paint it, which won't match any of my other alloys, and will probably look worse than it did before,

and I know he won't agree to do it properly I either, he'll say it doesn't need all that work done, and after arguing about that whether it does or not it won't get done at all,

so du reckon I should just leave it?

.... and smash his windows in the mean time??......... haha joke

Get money compensation - to repair them would mean taking the tyres off, so you are in effect back to square one!!

I would let him attempt to fix them because when there is a dispute the trader has to have a chance to look at the goods and if possible attempt a repair. If he does and it is of a bad standard tell him that you intend to take the wheels to a place you trust and will be fowarding the costs onto him. If all else fails you can take a small court action against him for the cost of repairing the wheels only about Â£45 quid and you will get that back if the judge finds in your favour. Also if you want the number for the consumer advice line it may be worth giving them a ring. Pm me if you need the number.
