Hey all, newbie here

Post by drunkpunk »

Hi everyone, i'm just about to turn 17 and have been offered a 1.3 Genesis for my first car.
i was just wondering how hard it was to get hold of skirts and arches for it off a gt/g40... are they expensive, easy to fit, can you get them new????
also has anyone got an idea of the insurance on these for a new driver etc?
cheers

gt skirts and arches are easy to come by, cost around 40-60 second hand, though you can get them cheaper from breakers yards. mk2 coupe s and saloons also have arch kits, the advantage of these is that they can be used without the rub strips, whereas gt and g40 ones form part of the side moulding

welcome along to the forum mate!

yeah as above really, they do pop up now and then! i have a nearly full set in my dads shed, everything except one of the front arches!

they are pot riverted onto the car but i know its a good idea to use some kinda of bonding stuff to seal them on. water can get under them and rot the arches out!

a genisis eh? not too many of them about!

well my mums boyfriend works for bp/castrol, been a mechanic forever lol. He says its all there, he knows the guy who has owned it and the guy before because they work at the same place. It was his wifes run around so hes basically known the car since new lol. Its not too much money but its just the insurance i need to know about really. I know i'm gonna have to bite the bullet for the first year but i need to do some research.

Anywhere to recommend for insurance?

thanks a lot peops, anything else i really need to know just say lol.

Well i wouldn't mind gettin some ATS Cups and lowering but i'm not sure what size wheels and how much to lower lol. what would you say?
Stereo is a must, i wanna alpine head unit, 6x9's and some components.
I wanna de-badge the back (not to keen on the genesis badge, something to with phil collins i spose lol)
Maybe a de-badged grill for the front.
What do you reckon?

Yeh get rid of those rear badges!!

front de-badge may look good, perosnally I'd keep it there for now though

ATS cups are a fair choice, I'd go for them in 15", wide as you can find them! (not sure how wide they get), if not there are loads of other good cheap alloys out there for the mark3, just check out the photography section.

If you get coilovers, you wont have to worry about ride height! you could drop it as much as you want 8)
