Red Rocker cover

My rocker cover is starting to corrode, I went out and bought some red "very high temperature paint" from halfords. My brake calipers need a lick of paint too so I was going to use it on them.

My question is:

Is this the right paint to be using on the rocker cover? Or should I be using a different paint? Do I need a laquer?

Also, when I remove the rocker cover to spray it, do I need to purchase a new gasket?

If you remove the cover, you should technically replace the gasket.

Yes its the right paint :)

Dont remove the cover, its not actully a cover, the cams are located in there its a huge job to remove and refit.

Just mask up the area you dont want paint on, give it a very good clean, and you need to key it.
You dont want the paint to lift, so take your time with the prep.

I did mine, took me all morning just to key it!

how much were the throttle bodies if you don't mind me asking?

how hard a job would you say it is to remove/refit this then?i don't wanna spray it on the car, due to no-where dry to do it? mines done the same as this lol :evil:

I really wouldn't suggest removing from the engine.
TBH its less work to remove the engine than it is to strip it.
The cams are held in this cover, and you require a special tool to hold the cams.

You could mask of the area while its in the car, key it and paint it with a brush if you dont want to remove it from the car.
Better still would be to mask the area, completly so it covers all the boot area, and body work and use a can of spray paint.

The TBs and ECU have cost about a thousand pounds, although the cars taken two years to get to where it is right now!

Its up at a friends garage in Scotland waiting for me to get up there and crack on with the wiring.
Should explain, the TBs are not on my Polo, they are on my spare Polo GTI engine I put in the Lupo. :)

When you say key it, I take it you mean primer? The very high temperature paint I aquired from halfords says that no primer is required.

Could you shed any light on this?

To 'Key' is to rough up the paint/body work up, so the paint has something to stick to.
Use an abrassive pad to put tiny scratches into the paint/body work.

I need to get round to doing mine, as tigz says its a nightmare to remove the top 'cover'. I will eventually do mine on the car. Use nitromors first to get rid of all the flakey paint. Then sand carefully with 240grit paper, followed by 400, then 600 wet.

Do a test sample with that ht paint you have, some are really bright garish shades of red that just look tacky.
