Help with Brake Upgrade

Post by Mouse_GTI »

Hey guys, about to get some 280mm Black Diamond Combi Discs and Predator pads. Euro Performance seem to be the cheapest for brakes & pads, but which one s do I get? There are no 280mm discs in the Polo section so I'm assumming a set from this section would fit:

http://www.europerformance.co.uk/pages/ ... category=1

Same with the pads, a big selection but got no idea what I'm after exactly:

I'm also gonna need some carriers. Would these fit ok:

Any pointers would be great and also if anyone knows any cheaper places to get them lemme know 8)

Hi mate, think i can help a bit here

I just did this conversion

Lomg as you get Corrado G60 Disks and Corrado G60 caliper carriers your away

Are you going to keep the original calipers? if so just get pads to suit a polo gti

I was told i would need to trim down the slider nuts but that was a load of rubbish, It all went no no probs and required no modifications of any kind

Great bolt on upgrade :)

Ok I forgot about the Mk2 Golf section and found the G60.

Do the following pads look ok: http://www.europerformance.co.uk/pages/ ... ?id=575703

Depends..

Are you going to use the G60 calipers and carriers or

Just use the G60 carriers with the original polo gti calipers?

Just using the original callipers. That ebay link has more than I need but there isn't any other second hand carriers for sale on any forums. I'll keep bidding unless it gets rediculous, then I'll just have to get a new pair

Ok, update. I've ordered the Black Diamond discs and pads. Lost the bid for the carriers on ebay.

I've seen these carriers and calipers on Ed38. Should I go for them?

http://www.edition38.com/forums/index.p ... pic=128052

Obviously I'd have to re-paint them red - would that be hard over new black paint? It's mainly carriers I'm after but would the Calipers be ok on the Polo? I heard they better accomodate the pads

Or there are these on ebay, but the auction ends in 6 days

iirc the G60 calipers will be fine, you'd just have to use different pads.

Painting over the black should fine too, give them a quick sand down, prime them up then put some red hammerite on them, jobs a good 'n 8)

Sweet, just gonna see if the guy will accept my offer of £80 posted. The Preadtor pads I ordered are for a Mk2 Golf G60 so will fit the calipers perfectly. The discs and pads are due Wednesday, can't wait, feel like a kid at christmas :D

does the difference in disc thickness cause any problems here?

gti 256mm discs are 25mm thick
g60 280mm discs are 22mm thick

is it still ok to use the original gti calipers with the g60 discs then?

Yeah you can use the original calipers or the G60 calipers. It's just the carriers need changing to G60's

well either that or every online shop has got it wrong lol

pretty sure they are 25mm

any further confirmation that original calipers are ok with the upgrade would be appreciated!

Well seen as I've been running original calipers with the 280mm setup for the past year without any problems, I'd be inclined to say yes.
