I've been looking at these type of things for a while now, but being a technophobe I have yet to get one. These look very similar to the ones on sale on ebay but maybe slightly cheaper than some. I would like one that did similar stuff to full VAG-COM such as increase steering weight and switch off the three flash indicator thingy (although I quite like the three flashes it can be a PITA).
I noticed when clicking on the link that this company is only a couple of miles away from me so I will try and find out a bit more about them. :)

My ? was a bit narrow ,

I should have asked

what code readers etc do people have , how much do they cost and how useful the various functions are ?

I hate it when the price doesn't include VAT too

Not had chance to get down there and have a look yet, but haven't forgotten about it.
Code readers are very useful if your car is out of warranty as it will cost at least £40 a throw for a diagnostic check alone if you have a problem of CEL comes up. The pricier one is probably similar to VAG COM and is very handy if you don't have a lap top. There are quite a few code readers on ebay but as ever I'm always wary of ebay stuff.

The VAG COM program, and adaptor cable, you can get the software from anywhere, and the cable on eBay

Check torrent sites for vag com,

The lead will be something like this, I'm not sure whether this one is the exact one but it'll be something like that (some leads only allow you to do certain things, like check fault and not fix them)

the reason for me asking was that the engine light had come on and replacingthe little hose under the airbox (which was split) did not cure it .

So i asked a family member who has a '53 plate Leon and he started a thread on the site he uses , there were a few people who said the technology and/or the software downloads were a bit old and had trouble getting them to work properly .

He said he would sort something out .......

so he bought a GENDAN code reader which does seem to be the biz, -----

printout with lots of things on ,including the mileage !

it showed faults for engine coolant temp sensor , lambda sensor and a/c - heater flaps ( air/temp)

He replaced the coolant sensor -- light out !!!! :D

the a/c has been a bit tempramental lately , will have to think about that one

I think perhapsa financial contribution is in order
