K&N Induction Kit 1.2 12V 9n

Post by W4510 »

Hi there. I've got a black polo 04 9n and I'm thinking of getting a K&N 57i induction kit for it. Not bothered with performance enhancement I just want a bit of a sporty sound I dont really like the engine noise from it at least on mine its sorta whistly. I want to know from any1 who has a 9n with one of these on was it easy to fit, and how it affects fuel consumption, cos mine is already terrible - if i drive no faster than 50mph on the main roads and gear change as early as possible I can expect 40mpg but normal driving is around 30.
I'm 17 and my insurance is £2800 with provident for TP only, but I might change to tescos cos i work there and can use my discount, lol, to get around £1600. Also I want to know if having the kit would seriously affect this price. The cars out of warranty.
Cheers, Dan

iv got a k&n sitting in the attic, i removed it as I found i was getting 15-20 miles less or so each time I went to fill up :? Same route to and from work as I used to before the filter. Could be just me though, i dont know :?
Sounds pretty good though. Easy to fit, straight forward.

i had 1 for my car and it snapped, i then got a 1.4 lupo sport 1 and that works fine :) same sound and simple to fit, but iv been told they lose about 3 bhp because they suck hot air in straight from the engine, didnt realy notice any change in the fuel to be honest

You have to give it a firm tug(its a real snug fit)

Wey the filter thing looks as if it will sit on one of the rubber mounts that hold the airbox on. I'm gonna fit mine today ive had a bit fiddle but i can't unclip the breather hose from the side and I dont want to smash it. Is there a special way to unclip it? Cos the breather pipe just pulls off at the front. It's well stuck to the cam cover as well any tips on removing it without damage?

with regards to the complete box, you can just tug it off, and it will come off. You have 4 bungs that hold it on, one in each corner. Watch out for the rear RHS corner, you have 1 big breather pipe and 1 smaller vacuum pipe. Disconnet these from the air box by pulling them back towards the FRONT of the car. They will simply slide off.

I took my engine cover / air box off ages ago, coz it broke! I worked out why I kept on blowing coil packs.. The engine cover bouncing up and down unsecurely, constantly wacking the poor coil packs at the front! That's why i went through all 3 coil packs in 6 months!! Hmm.. at least i got new ones on now :p hehe
