My Gearbox has just gone.

Hey guys my gearbox has just gone, it started to whine quite loudly when it ran down in any gear then it started to crunch and jump. Forth gear went so i had to drive everywhere in 1st 2nd and 3rd.

Im just shoppin around for prices.
It is the first gearbox its had in 91000 miles which is quite along time compared to some of other polos on this site.

Let me know when urs went and how much it was?

you dont even want to know ha ha (sorry I'm just having gearbox related issues at the moment). I'd estimate around Â£700 for a reconditioned gearbox. My best advice would be to shop around gearbox refurbishers and get as long a guarnatee as possible, as mine has 'gone' 4 times during in 12 months for various reasons. Oh and I have just done 89k miles

done 60k and a half and still on the original box. shame some stupid female saxo driver decided to write her car off by ploughin into the back of me full speed! still awaiting info on whether or not il get my polo back! gutted!

Mine has done 93k and is whining slightly when coasting in 3rd/4th gear and off the power coming down the revs. Changes and 'box action is all OK though! Just monitoring it at the moment... its the car's original 'box

I'm quite worried about the amount of failures people are getting after the gearbox is "refurbished"
