Newb here...

Post by GeeTeeI »

Hello...As I haven't formerly introduced myself yet...

I'm Neil and I bought a very cost inducing but yet very nice Polo GTI Open Air just before Christmas.

It cost me 5k but the mileage has only just hit 30,000 and it was in stunning condition sitting outside the garage and I couldn't resist. Wasn't too sure if I liked it being an open air but i've decided that I do now, after we've had some sunnier days recently and i've been able to have the roof right back :D

In terms of maintenance it's had 2 gearbox rebuilds, a new clutch and a new pedalbox since I bought it in December.
In terms of modifications, i've added a Powerflow custom full system exhaust, a K&N 57i kit and i've purchased 40mm lowering springs that i'm awaiting to be delivered! Not too sure what i'm going to do next yet, probably pedals and wheels.

I've included some basic pics that I took earlier on today after a quick wash!

Ah.. and can I thank everyone for all the good tips and advice they have added to this forum, as i'm sure most have...i've found it very useful!

Holy crap! This must be the rarest GTI ever. Didn't even know an open air GTI existed!

Open Air GTIs were very very rare. It was a special order option on some of the earlier models, but they still had full air con. A very strange combination indeed!

I looked at one just like this a few months back actually...it may even be the same one as I thought it was a german import model lol!

Very nice indeed :D

i did wander that, the ride height seems quite high for a standard gti but it could just be the pictures :?

Some clever bean should be able to work out if it was an origional GTI from the VIN number...

Thanks for the welcomes chaps.

Yeah it's an earlier model but it does have climate control as well as the sunroof which is cool. I've had the VIN number checked and it matches a polo GTI as I did wonder myself whether it was genuine. The whole car in terms of all the trimmings matches that of a GTI, so if someone would to have done a conversion, he would have spent a ridiculous amount of money on it making it perfect. The car has full service history/logbook etc...
