yes it is a 17mm allen key you will need, and it is 2.7l of gearbox oil (well you fill it until it comes out of the filler hole) you will also need a length of hose and a funnel or something simular so you can fill it from the top of the engine bay if you see what i mean. i used a filler nozzle from one of those plastic petrol cans (the end was a perfect fit for the filler hole in the gearbox) and a funnel made from cutting the top off a small plastic water bottle, both were clean of course. keep a drip tray underneath though, and dont make the same mistake i did; (look for my post in the polo gti section titled
gearbox oil change/re-fil HELP!!!!!!)

if you cant get hold of a 17 mm allen key you can use a spare wheel bolt (a 17 mm one) and a spanner if you are clever  or if you have a locking wheel bolt that might give you more room to fit the spanner on :)

let me know when you recieve the alloy mate

You dont need a hose and a funnel..

If you buy the small 1 litre bottles of gearbox oil you can just about manage to fill the box from under the car...not difficult..I have done it 3 times now

Just requires some lateral thinking...

I had to pull the plastic air feed duct off from behind the foglight to have enough space...(i just unclips)..

I see, cant remember what the surrounding bits are like off the top of my head. probably not helped by being on my back with car just on axle stands either. doesnt the oil spill all down the box if not using a funnel? with the filler hole being on the side (verticle surface). :? the spout on the 1l bottle is quite wide as i remember.

constructing a filler hose/funnel to do the job could also be viewed as lateral thinking you know
