He also states if we order a few kits then he could do bettter deals

Cancelled the order and decided to go for Eibach Pro Street Coilovers, attempting to find the cheapest place to buy them from.
Can anyone recommend any places I should try.

Cheers

FYI - COILOVERS GUIDE

Post by shakt1 »

Found this on a website & was good & informative read, thought id share it with you guys;

Different manufacturers have different approches to suspension design and what they believe is best. The names Eibach, H&R, Bilstein and KW have all been heard many times before and are all equally as good as each other when it comes to quality. In many cases these manufacturers outsource the production of certain components to each other. Examples of this - H&R Coilovers use Bilstein inverted dampers, Bilstein B12 suspension kits use H&R springs, Eibach Pro Street S Coilovers are made by KW and only the springs are by Eibach. The difference between the suspension kits offered by these manufactueres lies in their settings. This is where our experience of each of these manufacturers can give a general guide as to which one to choose.

Eibach Suspension - go for these if you want a good compromise between handling and ride comfort. Eibach tend to make the most compliant suspension setups available and for this very reason have the largest presence in the market given the state of UK roads.

H&R Suspension - The springs are slightly firmer, the suspension kits are lower and harder, the height adjustable coilovers are also slightly firmer. Those that want a slightly firmer ride and a more precise handling car will go with H&R. We would recommend H&R to those that are more enthusiastic about their driving.

Bilstein Suspension - The Bilstein Sport dampers are, in our opinion, the best. The quality and design are brilliant and they offer excellent control and at the same time are not too stiff but slightly stiffer than Eibach. The B12 kits use H&R springs (made to Bilsteins' specifications) which again are excellent. The Coilover systems are excellent and reguarded as one of the best without having too much adjustment as far as damping is concerned. Bilstein however do come at a price and this may not suit all.

KW Suspension - The springs range gives good ride comfort (somewhere between Eibach and H&R) but the added advantage of a large variety of lowering. Eibach will make springs which either lower by 35mm or by 50mm on both front and rear axles. KW give you a wider choice of lowering. For the same car you can usually have 35/35, 60/40 and 60/60 lowering. Where KW really excel is with their 2 and 3 way adjustable coilovers. The 3 way adjustable coilovers offer height, bump and rebound settings. The setting are neither too many nor too less so that adjustment is crude. They can be setup to exactly how you want them with the exact ride height you want. If time and effort is spent on setting up KW 3 way coilovers the results can be phenominal but again there is a heavy price tag to pay. Generally speaking, those that use their cars on track more will go for these.

Quite an interesting read there.

For me though if your spending out shed loads of money I would 100% want something that has the ability to go low... From what I have heard (I cant vouch for it personally) Eibachs just don't go low enough on the back.

I would still buy KW V2 if I had the money as I could'nt fault the ones I had on my Golf MK4 GTI. I still think FK offer the best value as a step down from KW in terms of all round features.

Just me though mate! Dont buy the Eibachs and then 6 months down the line put up a post saying you want your car lower at the back

Depends on what you want really. I've got Eibach coilovers, mainly went for them because I just didnt want to comprimise on ride comfort but also wanted a low look. I'd say the other coilovers such as KW would only go a further 10-15mm lower.

(Should be noted, when I have 3 people in the back, i do get rubbing on the rear over bumps)

Tbh ive found in all the research ive done of coilovers for the 9N. None really give the adjustability or lowering that i want.

Thats why ive getting some custom GAZ Gold coilovers made up for me. Coilover units front and rear. Adjustable stiffness front and rear. 100mm lowering potential. :D

I think if people want something ridiciously low then they should go with the air ride type.

How low are you sitting SpeedSix and have you removed the bit from the rear to go the extra bit lower?

Nope, havent removed anything to make it go lower. I didnt know you could actually do that until I heard about it on another forum.

Im probably about 50mm down on 17" wheels. Considering I always have people in my car im pretty much happy with my ride height.

That sounds good, il only ever be running 16's so I shouldnt really get any rubbing issues should I? What would be the optimum set up I could get with 16's,how low without any rubbing issues all the way around?

I read with Eibach that the front always sits a little lower than the back? Can you tell by looking at the car, or is it very minor?

air ride is for gays though :P. Im not saying that im gunna be going -100mm but the 60/65mm on all the coilover kits just doesnt seems to be enough to get the perfect stance IMO
