Coilovers/Springs

Whats the differen between coilovers and lowering springs? I want to go low but not have a rough ride, there are a few bumps road where I live. Ive been looking at FK Highspot coilovers or Eibach Pro Kit Springs. Any help would be great. Cheers

Lowering springs do just that. They lower your car with the OEM shocks. Personally i have never gone this way as ive heard that it can be boucy as the shocks arent matched to the springs in terms of poundage.

Coilovers are normally height and stiffness adjustable. So you can set how hard or soft you want it (to a degree). And you can raise or lower it so you can get the perfect stance. This is the way that i am going as they are alot more versitile will give you better handling althought maybe stiffer

The coilovers will give a rougher ride than springs.

I wanted coilovers for adjustability, but after putting my new alloys with 45 profile tyres on, I decided I couldn't put up with a harder ride.

I'm trying out some ABT 40mm springs which are on their way to me now, fingers crossed they will lower it just the right amount.

im on coilovers with stretched 40 profile tyres and the ride is lovely, not hard at all, just firm and balanced

I'd go for coilovers personally - i had eibach sportline springs and ended up wanting to go lower after a few weeks. Atleast then you can change your ride hieght if you want.

I have had both on various cars. Main probs with just springs are that they are not matched to the shocks >> the ride can be very bouncy!

There is no comparison to be made really though: £100 for springs or £400+ for basic coilovers... just depends what your after (adjustable/low/performance/quality)?
