New tyres on rear making car very tail happy

Hi all

got 2 new tyres last week as the backs were getting a little slick, i was looking to get my fronts put on back and have the new ones on the front, anyway i was given safety leaflet saying you should have new rubber on the back and old on the front whether front wheel drive or not so i just went with what they were saying. Before had then changed i had yokohama avs sports all round, i now just have these on the front, have been told that yokohama no longer make the avs sport and that the replacement is the s-drive, so i have now got the new s-drive design on the rears. Ever since i have had these new tyres on the rear the car feels crap to drive, so twitchy going round long corners at 60-70, constantly making adjustments to the steering, feels like i have got blocks of ice on the back, go down a road at 20-30mph weaving left and right and really feels like the back ends sliding out, certainly wasn't like this with my old worn tyres. Thought they may just take a few days to wear in but doesn't seem to be getting any better. Gonna go back to garage this week and ask them two put the new tyres on the front. Has anyone had any experience with these tyres, thought the avs sports were fine but really not liking these s-drives, not on the rear anyway.

i had s drives on a v6 vectra and boy they wer excellent tyres good grip dry and wet. check ur pressures but i wud say put them on the front. garages just say not to swap them round because it means the wear is slowed down if you rotate.

I have S-Drives on my car....Deffinately makes it a little more twitchy, but they grip like hot sh*t even in the wet....

Give them a little while to bed in....


Not sure they are worth such a high premium, but we will see how well they wear...

when you say put the tyres on the front you just mean swap the wheels front to back yeh? which you could do yourself. would be daft to have them actually remove/refit the tryes

so long as you adjust the tyre pressures that is (and provided your wheels are the same width front and back?)

They're definitely the right size yeh? I'd check the pressure all round also

yes just swap wheels front to back and make sure the pressures are correct as tyre places normally just set them at 32 psi but check anyway.
