Hi - Some pointers please

Hi all,

I'm new to the forum, VW's and Polo's as well

I've just bought a X plate 2000 5 door Polo GTi in Red, it's got 108,000 miles on the clock but is in very good condition and has full history. I paid £2900 for it so I'm a happy chappy.

The car is going to get a bit of a pasting on the miles front as I do a 170 mile round trip daily and the Polo will be used 99% of the time to do this trip.

From my first impressions it seems nippy enough and handles quite well too, what I really want to know is where to get spears from and some tuning parts?

I'm after:
- Grill with red piping
- Lowing kit
- Replacement Exhaust

That should be it for the time being as I don't want to though loads of money at a car that’s going to have a million miles in the next year.

My weekend toy is a TVR Tuscan (See pic below) so I'm looking to make the car super quick. My only other question I hope someone can help with is in relation to the Stereo, mine has no disk changer but I'd like to get one fitted can anyone tell me if there is a simple solution to fitting one?

welcome matey, first of all tvr is mint !

the red pipin u can use electrical tape or the pin stripping from halfords (couldnt say how easy cos aint had chance to do mine yet)

lowering id go for coilovers everyday... £300quid wud get u a set !

well my mates got fk highsports and hes very impressed with them there a bit cheaper than the kongisports which ive got !

i suspact the polo is a little tame in comparison. so like you say no real point in spending money on performance. but a bit on looks and handling will make the car alot better.

coilovers will be good, but if you really dont want to spend alot then you could just get lowering springs, as the standard shocks actually arnt that bad at all, and stiffer/lower springs will really improve the handling. i have an eibach kit myself. think its callet the prokit or sportline kit or something and lowers by 40mm. think it was around £140.

ref the red grill stripe, if you dont want to use tape then there is a guy on club lupo who sells red beading (£5 a length) which is very simple to apply and looks oem. do a search on here there are a few other threads which discuss it

Re the coilovers I would say go for the best that you can afford for a daily driver as the cheaper coilovers can very often be a harder ride than the more expensive ones. KW (variant 2) are pretty much top of the coilover tree and if you buy the variant 2 you can adjust the ride comfort as well as ride height.

I've got the FK Konigsport Silverline X, ride- and height-adjustable. Very good by all accounts but I have been in a GTi with KW v2 fitted and I think that its even better in terms of handling and comfort. The only thing is, the KWs aren't cheap!

Either the original boot-mounted jobbie, or you can fit a dash-mounted single-DIN 6CD changer from the Golf/Bora/newer Polo and hook it up to the standard GAMMA headunit. I've had both and if you don't mind losing the storage tray under the stereo, the in-dash unit is best as you get to reclaim a bit of boot space

Thanks for the info I think I'll see if I can get one of these, any ides on where to look I suspect flebay is the best?

I took the car out for its fist spirited drive this morning and it goes well, my only concern is that the suspension feels very soft and the rear feels like it's very loose. Is this normal?

I'm going to get it on some ramps as I'm not sure that all is well at the rear but I could just be me.

Lowering springs sound like a good alternative although I do like the ability to adjust ride height and damping so that I can set it up as I like (And good for track days ). The KW (variant 2)'s can anyone give me an idea on best place to buy these from? and what cost I'm looking at?

Hadn't noticed it until you have just mentioned it. It looks plan wrong now!
