New Polo Match Bought, suggestions for mods please

Hi guys

Just taken delivery of my new 08 Black polo Match and am thoughly pleased with it! I haggled and got a fair few things thrown in inc the sport, chrome front grill, but just after some suggestions as to nice mods that can be made, have looked through the site and you guys have produced some fantastic yet subtle mods on your cars.

Things im looking for are recommendations for good tint jobs, a good quality stubby arieal, what i should be replacing my headlight bulbs with etc etc.

Welcome to the site mate,

Tints - will cost Â£110-180 depending on how many windows you have done. Two popular options are a dark/medium grade on the back 3, or a light grade on all windows.

If you look at my sig, you can see my tints, Thats a medium grade on the back 5 windows.

However I'd recommend getting a light grade all the way around, it's more subtle and excapes the 'van' look.

No matter what anyone says, No amount of grade is legal on the front windows. VW factory glass comes pre-tinted and there is no tinting film on the market that will not tip it over the legal limit.

Alot of people get the fronts done anyway, but its up to you.

Aerials - The Honda S2000 is perfect for this, some people prefer the 'enfig' version of the aerial for it fits better. There's also a host of other 'sharkfin' style ones etc..

Bulbs - The correct bulbs sizes are as follows -

H1 - Full beams
H7 - Dipped beams
H3 or H7 - Fog beams (I'm not sure which one it is)

If you want better looking bulbs, there a loads of blue/white tinted bulbs for can purchase that are brighter and more update looking.

If standard bulbs is not your thing, there's the better (but more expensive) option - HIDs.

Dunno how much you know about HIDs, so I don't want to bore or patronize you.

Ma sis just got one on monday and when it sits next to mine its like a 4x4! I recommend lowering it if u can afford it and some new alloys?

Thanks for your posts guys. Think maybe tints arent the way to go, having trouble locating the areials on ebay.

Well i agree the ride could be lowered, but im pretty im pressed with the ride, suspension is firmish and with 195's 55's on there they arent too bad, think ill wait a while for new alloys, lets face it my 1.4 whilst lovely is never gonna be as quick or great at handling as your gtis

GTI grille (with no GTI badge of course: sacrilege),
red brakes (if you're bothered!),
bigger OEM-looking wheels,
possibly skirting + spoiler,
cubby box mod,
armrest mod (but do it properly),
and anything else creative but good-looking!

I wouldn't bother with any engine mods on a 1.2 apart from maybe a back-box, maybe a remap + induction and air filter on a 1.4 (you'll find it much more responsive).

But most importantly: keep it shining, wash it once a week esp. in this weather, and wax it once or twice a month! Don't forget the inside too!

Thanks for your suggestions guys, have already bought a few bits and pieces.

Question, I didnt realise my match only comes with 4 front speakers, i can get the vw upgrades in rear for 100 pounds and if i want upgrade the front for 100 pounds as well, anyone had this done and so is it worth it, quality wise?

In regards to your speaker question, I don't have a clue what VW upgrade to, but I reckon it'll be better to purchase your own aftermarket speakers and put them in yourself, they'll probably be alot better (you can get some decent speakers for Â£100 a set).

That's whether you want to go through the hassle of installing them yourself though
