2002 1.9 stdi fuel gauge fault

pls help. the fuel gauge on my car reads full all the time altho the computer mileage left readout counts down as normal. anyone else had this prob or know a solution.

Fuel sender may need replacing. It happened on mine. Does the gauge go down to zero with the ignition off?

yes goes to zero with ignition off.
surely the sender controls the fuel remaining on the computer tho????????????????

It can be a bit wierd - my sender was up the creek. The fuel registered wrong, but the reserve light still came on at the right time which was unexplainable.

that's an earth problem. if you short circuit the sender it goes straight to "full"
