Why is insurance such a scam
I am 37, 3 years no claims and drive a poverty spec 1.4L 8v, nothing special. Yes, she has a few mods, all declared. She sits in a locked garage every night and I live in a fairly quiet area. Why then am I am getting quotes ranging from £750.00 with Direct Line to £264.00 with Elephant (no guesses which one I went for). Just glad I can get her back on the road now,

I got quoted £1k for being 17, Provisional licence, Dad as main driver (40, with 3 years NCB) and me as named, TPF&T.
I would of thought it would be expensive for someone of my age, but not for 37 years old
Perhaps the mods whack it right up as it's a desireable car.

I didn't even think you were that old lol
Davids right, most who don't want to insure modded cars would give you a very high quote. It doesn't compete but they know others are doing the same thing and if you take up the quote then they make more money out of you for being a mug!
You should try Brentacre of HIC fella. Guess the cars still not ready for this wednesday? "poverty spec polo" nice quote!

yep ive got a years no claims and an IAM advanced driving liscence which dosnt seem to account 4 anything i pay nearly £1500 a year for my 1.6, tpf&t, yet my friend pays about £750 for her 1.4 16 valve with 0 years no claims BECAUSE SHE'S A GIRL. my mate says his insurance dropped about £300 when he accidently registered as Ms. Ross ... but im pretty sure that would invalidate your insurance ? Anyone confirm that? If not i may become Jo

This is where having a girlfriend / wife, who's older than you is a real bonus! I'm 33 and my wife is seven years older.
My 1.8T 20v Passat only costs £330 a year with First Direct, because she's a named driver and her Polo 1.6 8v is £270 per year.
So if you're serious about modding your motor, you need an older model!
