Accident....

Post by msmartinwsx »

Hi all,

Had a minor accident this morning... Cracked the front plastic girl that holds the VW logo.. Ordered a new one from VAG :) £18 odd, not bad.

However, there is some paint damage. Of course I dont want it there and need to know the best way of hiding it and also on getting a long term re-spray?

I cant be without the car for long and need somewhere local that can do it asap.

Any ideas please??

Going to venture there soonish.

For the meantime, how about trying myself?

I have primer, colour and lacquer.. Seems to be only slight scratchings and would seem expensive to pay £70 odd a panel when i would need 2 doing?

Any ideas on the best way to do this myself?

How big is the damaged area?

I'm getting a large stone chip fixed tomorrow - it needs the small dent pushing in, filling and priming and painting then laquer. Gonna cost about 65 quid, so I reckon if I got two done it'd be about 100.

Not sure on the extent of your damage, but worth a call if it's small? The guy reckons he can do pretty large areas (compared to a stone chip)...

Try Chips Away (Yellow Pages will be handy to find your local person)

If they can match your paint right then thy'll fix that for relatively little :)

Called them... they said it would take a few hours..

Are they any good as they only repair the patch affected (a few in my case). I have been told else where that if this is done - it can cloud?

Nice one! I'm glad you're pleased!

I bet you're pleased it cost a lot less than the "buying a new bumper" route, etc.

"The SMART squad" did mine - it's ok. Took him ages (3 hours) and it only came to 75 quid inc VAT. You can see the filler in the right light but you can't notice it if you don't know where it is. 4 stars. Can't complain for the price really - it was rusting before!
