...so I sold the Polo...

Post by ciden »

After much though and inner deliberation, I decided to sell the Polo and buy a Mini. Even with all the hick-ups and stuff I had with the Polo - I'm still going to miss it. Took the Mini for a test drive this morning - and I was hooked. Being a rare sight on South African roads - it's a real attention seeker and it gets it too. The car I'm buying is a Cosmos Black Cooper, white roof and side view mirror and white bonnet stripes.

You guys most probably gonna see me as the enemy now and boot me out - but still the Polo was part of my life for a short period of time.

Will still come and see what u guys up to!

Nice one.. top car!

I love the Mini's, the Copper and S handle so well.

The new mini have had their faults but don't seem too common and hold their value well. The dealers are apparently very good too.

Best of luck with it :D

Okay, fair enough - but there are plenty of 'lemons' around in any make and model of cars. I know of a guy, whom bought a Polos for his wife and mother-in-law - both giving huge problems. Another: Merc C220CDi - so mucg problems, MBSA exchanged it for another car. 3 years ago, Renault SA gave my dad a new car, when he's car's engine overheated after warning them numerous times that the car got hot.

Anyways, took delivery of the car yesterday and I've been loving every single moment. It has a suspension that I absolutely love - very close to the hard suspensions of the Audi's - just a car that suits me more. Still feel sad about the Polo.

The mini is much smaller than the POLO, I prefer spacious hatchbacks....

But for the performance it gives, it compensates.

Did u get the chilli pack??

Nice one!

I like the new Mini, so much so I almost bought a remote control Cooper S from Tesco earlier for only £12.49 (and it's huge!)

I hope you enjoy it and don't find too many problems with it.

Very shiny car indeed! Looks good, I like the way the front pillars are.

Smart.

What's insurance like in SA?

Thx Scorpio. Insurance in S.A. is pretty good. I've now changed from personal use to professional use insurance. On my Polo, it was R258.00 (roughly £21.00), and now on the Mini it's R345.00 (£28.00) - based on ZAR12.50 - £1. It's all done on our family scheme, so we get a fairly good discount. If was to insure the car on my own, it would've been about £36.00. Heck, my new notebook, which is a fairly expensive model, is insured for £6.70 a month - how does that compare to U.K. prices?

Got up this morning, still sleepy feeling and aiming my way to the garage, just to make sure it's all true, that I actually did get a Mini :)

I have to add - last night when I was looking through some of my pics, I came across some of my Polo - it was a sad moment. It all happened so fast, and with work and all it never sunk in that the Polo would be gone...anyways. I did think about getting a 1.9TDi Polo (red), but I'm someone that likes to have something that's different. I know in the U.K. the Mini is a common sight on the road, but not locally. Being into architecture, it's retro design and 'individual image' suits me well :)

Seems like it's somewhat more expensive in the UK!

I pay about £550 a year on my 1.9 TDI

Jacob... Is that insurance price per month or yearly?

I pay around £50 per month for mine (over 10 months)...

Nice one for getting the Mini... I keep wanting to test drive a Cooper S, but I've been to busy recently.

I can't see the pics, I wonder if you've taken them down?
