is ther going to be a problem with the gearbox cus it's only a poxy 4 speed at the moment and is it better to have a complete donor car as my mates got it into his head we're gonna need the ignition barrel and keys for the engine???????

hey up,
i think you would only need the ign. barrel and keys if you were fitting a pretty new engine that has an immobiliser built into the engine ECU which would need the code from the key to start it. With an older car, i don't think this would be an issue for you.

on this subject as it interests me too, i have a 1.3 (i think) with a 4 speed box on a H plate coupe. I would be intested in fitting a 1.6 8v from a mk4, (would a 1.6 16v fit?), with GT fuel injection as suggested. Does anyone know if a 4 speed or 5 speed box would be best for really fast acceleration and a reasonable top speed - but not silly? I'm more for the fast acceleration cos its more fun!

Rich.

golf gti engines will not fit without major surgery at a cost of 2k or more, so not viable and they wreck the handling.
1.6 16v and 1.4 16v will fit, no idea how much work, but i cant imagine it would be that bad, probably not worth using gt injection on these though

1.6 8v: go onto polo3.co.uk and speak to a lass called ema, she has a mk3 with this engine fitted with gt injection.

Probably not the most helpful, but if you can spare the cash, is always good having a donor car, as if there is anything you need later you can just take it off the car!
By the way, anyone know a good place to pick up G40 engines?

perhaps a mk5 GTi polo lump? 1.6 16v. check the mk2 section as there are some pics of one fitted in a mk2! that would be a nice set up!
