Broken Central Exhaust Bracket?

Post by SilvaGTI »

I've just put my Polo Gti through it's 1st MOT earlier today and it passed OK apart from a 'Broken Central Exhaust Bracket'. They've said they've welded it and that it'll be OK now (only cost £50 so it wasnt too big a deal).

Just wondering is anyone else here on the forum's encountered the same problem. On the subject, has anyone else needed work done on their car for it to pass it's MOT and how much did it cost? Might be handy to keep a thread with a list of work required + prices for MOT's so we know what to expect if we've a problem with our motors. I'll start

Broken central Exhaust Bracket = £50 (welded)

Mine broke ages ago...

It's just got a jubilee clip round it and it's held for over a year. Passed it's MOT with this on too!

Mine almost failed it's MOT today for the same reason, plus the front bracket holding the down pipe had corroded and the middle one...VW wanted a pricely sum of £1200...ouch!

However they were honest in saying that all they could do was to replace it all hence the price but if I took it to another garage they could weld it for me...

Decided to drop into VW Enterprises on the way back and as soon as I mentioned the brackets they finished my sentence but saying 'they are broken'. Quoted me £30 for the job...job's a good 'un!

First Mot car had to have middle bracket welded, second Mot car had to have middle bracket welded again. Poor design to much stress going onto bracket a bit like the duff pedal box.
