How to remove gearknob and gaiter?

hi guys?

could anyone tell me how to remove the gearknob from my polo 1.9 gt tdi. i have tried unscrewing it anti-clockwise but it wont even move.
Also how does the leather gaiter sleeve come off?

you'll have to pull the gaitor up over the lip of the opening and the gearknob, and then you'll see that the knob is clipped on.

Ease the clip open just enough to remove the kn0b - maybe use a couple of shortish screwdrivers to do this - don't destroy this clip as you might want to reuse it and replacing it with a jubilee clip is a no-brainer as it will end up chaffing the gaitor as tear it. You can't unscrew it as the top of the lever is square or hexagonal and the kn0b has the same number of tangs that get clamped by the clip. To remove the gaitor from the kn0b, you just need to ease down the top plastic collar with again a couple of screwdrivers etc. Just remember to ease in towards the lever the rear of the gaitor frame so that you do not break the clips that hold it into the console - front is same - ie two lugs on the frmae front and two lugs on the frame rear.
