Poor Seatbelt Retraction

Hi, I've read on a post here that this is a common fault with this model (the belt does not seem to rewind properly and so often gets caught in the door) but I was wondering if there is any fix?

giving them a good clean normally helps.
i take mine out the full length, then hoover it as it slowly retracts in, then maybe with a damp cloth do that again.

Cheers for the advice. Do you know if this affected the 5 door models as well or only the 3 door due to the angle the belt has to be becuase of the seatbelt point being further back (if I am making any sense)

i've never owned a 5 door, so i cant say, they'l prob be sticky but as i said not got a clue.

My Mothers 2005/05 9N suffered from poor retraction of all belts (over time) and all were replaced under warranty by VW recently. This car is a 5 door and apparently this seems to be a 'known problem' - if yours is out of warranty ask your dealer if they can do something?

Thanks for the advice. Don't intend to use the dealer for servicing anymore (not that they know this yet so will give them a call and see what they say.

My seatbelt has been poor at retracting since i got the car, nearly 3 yrs now.
When i was a member of Vw Assistance i mentioned it to one of them and he told me vw will not recognise this as a fault, but did tell me to pull the seatbelt fully out and spray the belt with silicone spray while letting it back in.
This works great - but the spray leaves a belt shaped band on your clothes, if you dont mind that it's a good fix.

I liked that fix, VW really using their imagination - so at least you can spot a fellow VW owner! This problem was always been present on my Passat (2000MY) from new!

Just to put people's minds at ease ...

This is a known fault on the Polo 9N (don't know about other models - sorry!) as that was confirmed by Wayside here in Milton Keynes and Spirit VW in Banbury when I enquired about having them replaced under Warranty. VW do apparently recognise this as a known fault, and will replace the entire belt (because it comes as a whole kit I am told) - s all you have to do is nudge them.

Now for cars out of warranty I don't know what their response would be, but surely its got to be worth asking? Chance your arm fellas and see what you get

you'd have thought he'd have the sense to tell you only to spray the bit that never comes out normally! that would have helped a bit but not got you covered in spray.

Well, VW told me that seatbelts have a lifetime warranty when my drivers one got jammed on the day after I bought the car (typical ). Although it was under warranty, it would have been replaced even if it wasn't.

Might be worth asking.
