Bumper Strips

Hi all,

Seen a number of posts here where people have removed their bumper strips to have them smoothed and sprayed.
I know I can remove the front and rear ones by taking the corresponding bumpers off and then unclipping the strips.
However I can't seem to find any info on how to remove the side strips?
I've also read that they are bolted on and not glued?
Would really appreciate it if anyone could explain how to remove these.

you pull them,

ideally heat them up first. they are glued on, with locator "pins" that won't get in the way if you just pull them off.

beware though, if you pull them too much you'll end up with bent side strips.

if you take them off you will most deffo need new ones, theyre not expensive

I never quite understood the benefit of colour coded bump strips - you see by their very nature these things are designed to protect the body of the car from bumps. Being black plastic they can absorb the minor dinks and knocks that cars pick up. By colour coding them you will see that when these strips bump and get knocked even more?

I know visually colour coded look nice but these strips are there to be bump protectors - so let them be and do their job?

I don't want bump strips at all. they only really protect my door from opening into other solid objects - not people bumping into me because other doors nearly always bump at a different height to the strip because of their shape.

so if I'm careful, I don't need them black plastic, and if they get knocked by someone else I'll just touch them up or paint them again.

at the end of the day, why buy a Polo over another car of similar quality? a lot of the choice is how the car looks. by making it look better, I am sacrificing a tiny bit of practicality.

should I also leave the suspension stock? or change my wheels back to standard? modifying is all about personal taste and what you're willing to (perhaps) sacrifice in order to get the look you like.

If you want black bump strips, I'm not going to complain, but I wouldn't criticise your choice.
