Â£250 for a 1.6 CL open air- is it worth it?

A mates dad is selling a p reg 1.6 CL open air for Â£250.

It's MOT'd and taxed till October.

The problems he knows about are, it needs a new throttle body, new front grill and the a couple of tyres could do with replacing.

This seems cheap to me, even to use it for parts for my existing polo: passenger side electric window, rear drivers side door, front spoiler, it has a sony face-off CD player (I've still got the factory fitted tape playerin mine).

What do you think, worth going for?

How much would a new grill and throttle body cost (is it a difficult job to fit?)?

New grill (just get one second hand for Â£20 if that), throttle body can't be any more than Â£50 fitted. Bargain! Even for Â£500 thats a good price!

He doesn't know and isn't clued up on cars, hence the low price.

The TB probably just needs a good clean with some carb cleaner. Don't be shocked when you do it and the car idles at 2k rpm! You just need to get the ECU reset. Much cheaper than having to buy and fit a new TB.

buy the open air, transfer the bits that are working on your current onto it (grille, TB etc.) n sell ur current for the same price. hey presto- free upgrade!!!

Just did a vehicle check on it, and it was a Cat D write off in '02. Does Â£250 still represent good value?

I seem to remember that if a car has been wrote off it's only worth a 1/3 of the value?
