2 questions for you experts

Post by robabsalom »

Hi all,

Sorry to bother you all with these questions but any help from you guys would be appreciated.

Q1. I have a Polo cl 1.4L open air (1998) any ideas on what it is worth? (exellent condition)

Q2. ever since i have had the car there has been what can only be described as a rattling sound when you are accelerating in higher gears. most notable on the motorway at between 65 and 70 mph, then it stops and becomes silent (as it should be). There has never been a performance issue, just an annoying rattle sound. is this a common problem with this model etc???

cheers for any help guys

to give ya an idea i saw a y reg open air mk5 polo with 50k on the clock go for £4200 but i live in a fairly poish area ( shout cost ) and its not cheap to buy a car here heance why i got mine from london...

as for the sound i just got that 2 nights ago when i let a m8 have alittle drive and i could conectrate on the car itself .... but as soon as i started to drive again it was gone ....

Check the airbox/airfeed mount. It's the part that holds the flexible tube in place, it's like a bolt and jubilee clip thingie that bolts into the chassis, just to the left of you cambelt.

rev the car on the spot and if the rattling is there at the same sort of rpm then i'd bet my car on it being the exhaust heatshield / guard, its like a tin surround, if you cut it off then the rattling will go. On my polo (2001 1.4 16v) it had a braided front pipe flexible joint, mine rattled when the revs were dropping, i've sinve cut it out and welded a Bosal replacement braided pipe in and had cured all my the noises (was a 'tizzing' sound). Hope this helped.
