Speed camera question

Post by Josh_polo »

Right im not sure if anyone is from arounf my way, but down princess road there is a speed camera right by haulfauds...

The image below will make it easier.
The yellow dot is the camera and the arrow pointing to the right of the screen in the direction in which it was facing.
The bigger arrow was the direction i was traveling (speedlimit of course  )
The red dot is where it flashed me, im not sure if it was once or twice im preety sure it was once though...

Question is am i getting 3 points?

The simple way of looking at it is, was there anyone else near the camera at the time? If not then it was obviously you it flashed so you'll just have to wait and see.

If it was a GATSO them I'm pretty sure they cant get you when you are going towards them (front on), only as you are exiting them (back view).

I have also heard (not a clue if its true or not though) that if it does flash you on the other side of the road, then it hasnt got any film, just a dummy flash to scare people.

I'm pretty sure though that GATSO's can only get you if they are on the same side of the road as you and take a picture of the back of your car.

If it was a Truvelo though, then you may be in trouble

yup thats a gatso, and they can only flash you from behind, i have spoken to many cabbies about this & one even drove over the speed limit to prove it!!!!

I did hear a rumour that if you are speeding at over double the speed limit it on the other side, it may flash but they cant do you....

its dangerous for the flash to be oncoming so thats why they cant prosecute (i believe)

Truvelos as said above are the opposite, they look a bit scary & have a massive lense and face towards you...but dont flash at all when they catch you...as shown below

"To avoid the 'flash' which is given out by a rear facing Gatso camera the Truvelo system uses an infra red flash which produces no visible 'flash' to the approaching driver. These rely on 3 white-lines in the road, painted just before the camera, and are triggered by strips in the road, used to gain the vehicles speed.

Pretty sure any front facing camera isnt allowed to flash at you....i did my research big time after thinking id been caught..

maybe it was like a really early version of the truvelo thats not used anymore??

Could have been, it's used for both sides of the road (they turn the head around)

I have been flashed loads of times while going head on at a GATSO and they dont give you the fine.

I think they cant get you though because it counts as observing someone in a private motor vehicle, and is classed as intrusive surveilance, and in order to do this they need RIPA authorisation.
