The GTI Clutch - is it heavy normally?

Post by alexperkins »

Hi all

Quick question in my research for a GTI

The clutches - are they always heavy, or is it a faulty clutch that needs replacing and maybe a new cable that causes it?

Reason im asking is mine got like this when it was nearing the end of its life, as the release bearing wore out and the friction surface got very thing.

All help is appreciated!

Thanks

Alex

From the GTi's I've test driven prior to the purchase of my GTi, I have noticed that they are all very heavy. The only solution is to replace it with an aftermarket, which is what I've had done. The difference is immense.

There are 4 main options of clutches for the GTi. You can either have a Valeo replacement OEM clutch, a Valeo sports clutch, an LUK or a Sachs.
I've managed to get the Valeo Sports Clutch, and as said before the difference is immense.

My mechanic obtained it and fitted it for me. I was given the choice of the Sachs and the Valeo, and was advised that the Valeo would be better.

Never heard of the Valeo sports clutch, sounds interesting.

I'll let you know how mine goes on monday Alex, I'm getting mine replaced. Not sure what with at the moment though. When I rang my mechanic he was really grumpy and kept saying he didn't enquie about what kit it was when I asked him :?. Will find out soon enough though!
