Servicing Costs? (First Service @ 16000)

My service light has just come on yesterday. It's at around 14,500 miles now on variable servicing so I can't complain.

It's started counting down now, so just have to book it in by the time I cover 1300 miles or it will probably explode!

After checking some of the older posts it seems variable servicing is just that. Can be anywhere from 5000 miles to 20000...

So just out of interest...

1) How much was your first service?
2) How many miles was it at?
3) Which engine do you have?

I'm just a cheapskate and dont mind taking the car further away if it means getting a cheaper service. Luckily the only problem I have is the rear washer problem and my headlights are out of alignment (probably chargable), after seeing some of the problems on here I don't want them touching anything else!

I should add that my new local VW garage have said they would price match a service cost from a competitor (within reason)

This is the same garage that let you use their car wash free of charge (yet to try that one), give me free oil, and offer big discount on accessories if you ask nicely. They also let you watch the work being done on your car, if you can be arsed to sit there the whole time.

Ok... I know this is of absolutely no use to most of you as Petrified's dealer probably won't be able to match VW Carbel (http://www.carbel.com.br) but, since I had my car serviced in February, here it is anyway.

First service for our Polos is at 15.000Km but I had mine done at 12.800Km, which is 8000 miles (service light came on at about 12.500Km).

Had the oil changed and the steering aligned (not sure if that's what you call it). Other work was done under warranty.

Cost me R$292.49 (approx. £53.20) all inclusive. Here's the shopping list:

- Oil filter
- Oil filter gasket
- Carter clean-up
- Pollen filter
- 4 litres Elaion VWS 5W30(?) synthetic oil
- steering alignment (is that correct?)

And the free stuff under warranty:

- Mechanical check-up
- Dashboard rattles
- Right-hand side headlight replaced (water infiltration)
- Air-con 'recycle' button (I'm still waiting for that part, the thing works part-time now!)

That's it. Oh, my Polo's a 1.6 8V with 101bhp.

PS.

They also included full valet service w/ liquid wax and all. No replacement car but they do pay for a taxi to drop you off after leaving the car, and to pick you up when service's done.

I'm just sad my warranty will be up in about a month (on the 10th of April).

Just wondered, what dash rattle where you getting? Is it the part that runs along the whole windscreen?

Nope. I got rid of that one in a previous visit to VW's. That's one of the new Polo's favourite rattles though, isn't it?

This time however it was the centre console - as usual.

Sorry going off topic here for a minute but do you know how they sorted it out? As it's a while to my service and all the other little niggles I have done myself.

It's more of a little bang/creak when going over bumps.. seems to be the smooth plastic that runs along the windscreen, somewhere on the left or middle.

( I'm hoping my first service is under £200)!

Hmmm. I don't really know what they did, but several technical bulletins have been issued by VW to help dealers tackle rattly Polos, I'll give them call on Monday to ask about the recycle switch and will ask them what they usually do in cases like yours.

In my car, the plastic part near the windscreen rattled near the A-pillar, right where it meets the A-pillar trim. I know the rattle came from the dash and not the pillar because when you pressed that part the noise stopped.

I'll ask my dealer and PM you my findings.
