GTI tuning
Right im thinking of playing with the cars engine this year.
Ive already got a BMC, and exhaust system. Plan to add a de-cat and cams at some stage also, followed by a remap
What else could i do? porting/ polishing?
any help would be good guys

Im sure this has been discussed in length before...
The amount of money you would have to spend to get a decent power increase from the engine would be pretty high...
It would be fairly easy to add a small supercharger...but would the gearbox take it?
I think most people look at it and just dont bother, either get a faster car or fit the 1.8T engine...

If you're serious about doing it, I'd recommend looking for some of the old threads by a Greek guy who had the username poussou.
From a few years back, but the information should still be useful:

They do say the GTI engines weakest area is the intake/head gas flow...
So if you fitted individual throttle bodies and had a really good go at porting and balancing the head, I suspect that is where your greatest power gain would come from!
If your going really really in depth you could increase the power and rev limit of the engine by stripping the entire thing down and having all the parts balanced and fine tuned (blue printed)...
But thats really REALLY silly money...

Here is the solution (if you speak German and have a lot of cash):
